I'd add my voice to the "iMac's not so bad" crowd - I've got a 20" Core
Duo (so quite old really) and it's great; no beachballing when running
parallels, totally silent except on rare occasions when the fans run,
etc...

I opened it up a few months ago to replace a dead HDD, and the
components didn't really seem 'too close for comfort'. Certainly not as
close as a laptop.
