My first flight was in a Miles Messenger and my second in a Bristol
Freighter.  Apart from one flight in a glider and one in a hot air
balloon, I haven't flown since.  (I am perfume-allergic and it is
difficult to get out of an aeroplane if some idiot opens a bottle of
perfume).

I could never work out why they fitted wings to the Bristol Freighter;
it seemed to trundle down the runway and then hang from its engines like
a bizarre sort of helicopter.  The fuselage was about as aerodynamic as
a brick, so it didn't matter if the underside faced front.
