Well sure. And like all kids, when I heard it first, then saw it, I
wen't 'Aaaaah!' But actually nostalgia is a cheat and a liar; I've
reached the age when the movie I remember is '12 O'clock High', which
showed the tension and suffering of air crews and especially on
commanders (they actually use the film as a teaching resource on the
leader****p course at West Point and I have to say it doesn't seem like
such a bad idea). I also remember the German instructional film that
includes endless gun camera footage of B17s (and B24s) being shot to

You really wouldn't want to be there.

Plus the savagery of the whole thing; on all sides tens of thousands of
aircrew killed and injured, hundreds of thousands of civilians- actually
tens of millions if you include Russians, crushed, burnt, gassed.

When I was a child, I enjoyed the war, the bangs and the lights. Thank
