Why is print dialogue so slow ?

Hi all,

I have converted from PC to Mac about 6 months ago and use new iMacs at
home and at work.

One thing I notice that is so so so slow compared with PCs, is that when
I go to print do***ents, the lag before the print dialogue box comes up
is so so so long.

We have PCs at work and they pop up in a microsecond.

Why is this ? and is there anything I can do about it ?

BTW: it also happens with "save as" dialogue boxes....
