Apple on the App Store

by me18@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (zoara) Jun 13, 2008 at 04:03 PM

Some guy on Youtube posted a very low-quality video of a theory he has
about the App Store. You can view it here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQuTzsHUnaY

....but he'd really have been better just typing it up. He basically says
that Apple might be witholding certain features on the iPhone (such as
MMS, video recording) so that they can put them on the app store.

I can see this being kind of possible, actually. All those people who
really want MMS, or cut-and-paste, or whatever, can buy these as extra
features, for say $5 (or free), which means that those who want it can
get it, and those who don't 'need' those features get the standard
phones without the 'power-user' clutter and complication.

And, being Apple, they can create apps that *require* background
processing or deep system hooks. MMS and C&P are unlikely to be
addressed by third parties on the App Store due to the restrictions
Apple have created... but Apple themselves needn't be tied down by those
restrictions...
