error -36 problem & solution

by "whisky-dave" <whisky-dave@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 23, 2008 at 05:15 PM

I brought a iOmega 750Gb drive the one that goes nicely with a minimac.
From dabs ~£140.
I'm using it with a iMac G5 20" 2GHz.
Partitioned it in to 5 drives (for testing carbon copy clone backups).

Worked fine with USB2 getting speeds of about 1 Gb transferred in about
1min
40 secs.
Tried using FW but got a -36 error if I tried copying anything larger than

about 4Mb
to the Iomega.

After about 10 mins of head scratching I decided to unplug my
external iSight from iMac and that solved the problem.
I then plugged the iSight in to the firewire hub on the drive which is one

of the
reasons I chose the HD in the first place.
copying worked fine when the iSight was plugged in to iomega hub.
Got a speed of about 1Gb per miniute.

So not sure why the external drive cause the problem with the iSight
when plugged in to the iMacs ****ts but I can ignore it.

Another thing the drive did was that as soon as I plugged it in
my thermographX lost it's contact with the iMacs temperature sensors
on the HD & T-Diode, and couldn't display the short or long term graphs
although Istat pro found them and the thermographX icon in the dock
displayed them.
