Tiger is MacOS X 10.4, yes? (can you recall which code name applied to
10.0 or 10.1 or 10.2 or 10.3?  I can't - stick with the numbers, they'll
always make sense).

I've never dared touch the `restore' button in Disk Utility, on the
grounds that it sounds dangerous and anyone I don't have a clue what
sort of disc image it'd work on, nor exactly what it might do.

The do***entation is hazy, but clear on the fact that `Restore' doesn't
create the disc image you need for it to work.

The Disk Utility do***entation does state that prior to 10.4, it wasn't
possible to recover from a dead disc in a RAID mirror array.

Can anyone explain what was the point in having the ability to create a
RAID mirror array if that was the case?

CarbonCopyCloner failed to work in that role when I tried it; SuperDuper
did.  4G5, MacOS X 10.4.11 (at the moment; can't recall what
configuration I found that CarbonCopyCloner failed on).
