Re: I Can't transfer large files to Windows NT 4 Server. Help!

by Paul Nelson <nelson@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sep 28, 2005 at 08:22 AM

I don't find it unethical to offer a product that I know will solve the
problem, along with full technical sup****t that can be accessed without
even
buying the product. The customer can verify that it works before buying.

How much is their time worth to figure this out? Not everyone has the
time
or desire to figure this stuff out on their own.

I'd give Andreas some credit for understanding what the difference is
between a commercial product and what you get from Apple.

Andreas must be using NT 4 Services for Macintosh (SFM), due to the fact
that the NT 4 AFP server hangs (a common problem with that old version).
Also, NT4 SFM does not do AppleShare over IP - it uses AppleTalk which is
extremely slow, and breaks down quickly on a large network.

If Andreas has Mac OS 10.X, he could try using Apple's connect to via
Apple's SMB client. However, since he has been using SFM, files will lose
all their metadata and resource forks. This may or may not be a problem.
With DAVE, file formats are compatible with SFM so you can deploy on one
Mac
and leave others using AFP if you like.

If Andreas has Mac OS 9, then what is your solution Bill? I doubt there
is
one except to use DAVE or upgrade from NT4 to Windows 2000/2003.

Just to make sure I'm not trying to fool Andreas into wasting his money,
DAVE 6 costs $119 US, and sup****ts Mac OS 9 and Mac OS 10.3 and 10.4.
This
includes 90 days of technical sup****t. Andreas may try the product and
test
our tech sup****t with a free evaluation.

I hope this answer meets your approval, Bill.
