How are you connecting? AFP or SMB? I'm guessing SMB from your
description.
I'm not familiar with this key but it sounds like you're essentially
setting the "Microsoft client: Digitally sign communications (always)"
policy setting. Look for this in either your server's or domain's
security policy settings and set it there.
However, I'd suggest using a third party piece of software called Dave
or ADmitMac from Thursby <http://www.thursby.com>.
It will allow you to
connect without having to lower the security of your server.
