I had the same problem and ended up using a different driver altogether
for my mouse.
I now use SteerMouse (though I heard that USB Overdrive X works nicely
too - but it doesn't supprot bluetooth mice).
The warning was driving me insane. The new driver works like a charm,
but doesn't provide any warning whatsoever if the battery is low. So be
it! If the mouse stops working, I put new betteries in and I'm done.
(and I even have a cheap battery tester if ever I have any doubt).
