Install of SP1 always causes setup assistant to start

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I installed SP1 to Office 2008 today and ever since then if I start any
Office app the setup assistant starts and that app closes. I have tried
uninstalling all Office and reinstalling several times to no avail. I have
also tried rebooting several times.

I have tried just going back to the pre-SP1 version but it says that it
can't read my profile because SP1 updated it and it crashes also.

I am at a standstill unless I can stop this setup assistant to knock it
off. For some reason the little My Day widget works just fine.
