Hi all,
Another question from someone new to Mac and Office for Mac. I like to
create hyperlinks between different do***ents that reside in different
folders. The problem comes in when I try to link FROM a do***ent in a
subdirectory TO a do***ent in a higher-level directory, or to a do***ent
in a different subdirectory of that higher-level directory. For example:
File containing the link:
file://localhost/users/myusername/Do***ents/SubDir1/SubSubDir1/do***ent1.docx
File to be linked to:
file://localhost/users/myusername/Do***ents/SubDir1/do***ent2.docx
So I insert a hyperlink into do***ent1, and choose do***ent2 from the
"Select..." dialog. However, in the "Link to:" window in the dialog, the
link does NOT back up to the higher-level directory. It should read:
"../do***ent2.docx", but instead it reads simply "do***ent2.docx", as if
both do***ents were in the same folder.
The problem is worse when I try to link to a file in a "cousin" directory,
for example:
file://localhost/users/myusername/Do***ents/SubDir1/SubSubDir2/do***ent3.docx
Then I actually get a link that looks like this:
file://localhost/users/myusername/Do***ents/SubDir1/SubDir2/SubSubDir2/do***ent3.docx
What seems to be happening is that Word is not "allowing" me to link to a
higher-level directory (unless, that is, I manually type in
"../../"myself).
Does anyone have any ideas about this? I have hundreds of do***ents, all
liberally hyperlinked, and many of these links are not working now.
Thanks!
