My company is in the process of upgrading from NT to XP and from Word 2000
to
Word 2003.
Normally when a user opens Word and prints a do***ent by simply hitting
the
printer button the default printer, set at Start, Settings, Printers, is
the
printer that prints the do***ent.
If the user switches to another printer, say to print labels, Word holds
that printer setting for the current session (unless it is changed again
within the current session - in which case it holds whatever printer was
chosen THEN) OR until Word is closed. Once Word is closed the default
printer setting should take over and, when Word is re-opened, the default
printer at Start, Settings, Printers is the printer selected when the
Print
button is used.
On the NEW computers when the user switches to another printer, that (new)
printer setting holds through the current session AND even after Word has
been shut down and restarted. We checked the default printer setting at
Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes and that stays what it should be - BUT
in
Word the printer last chosen (even if was the label printer and the user
only
wanted to print to it ONCE) is the printer that everything goes to until
THAT
printer is changed.....
The same seems to be happening when settings such as paper type (bond or
regular) and number of copies is changed. So when Jane Doe prints 2
copies
of labels, shuts down and goes to lunch, comes back and opens Word again,
types up a memo and hits her print button thinking she’s going to print
1
copy of the memo to her “regular” printer - she winds up with TWO
copies at
the LABEL printer.
