Try printing with the Fit To Page option selected. PPT's default page
size is around 10 x 7.5" and I'm
guessing that the MacOS PDF feature's default page size is 11x8.5, leaving
you with borders. Fit To Page
should enlarge the slide image to fill the page.

When ex****ting Adobe items one
gets a dialogue of options. (I know PDF is an Adobe format)
That's one of the drawbacks of the free PDF saving capability built into
Mac OS. You don't get all the
options you get when you use (the rather costly but more flexible and
full-featured) Adobe Acrobat.
There are probably less expensive or even free products that'll give you
more control over your PDFs.
A bit of googling should turn something up.
