Don't know what's up with embedding the PPT.

You can not embed "the whole" PDF -- it's based on pages, after all, and
Word 
is just presenting those pages to you as individual objects. You could
(for 
example) do page 1 to 15 in Word and 68 to the end in Word, and make a
PDF. 
Then insert your already created PDF as pages 16 to 67 later.
