Hi Heather - 

I don't mean to be picky but it makes a big difference here - templates
(.potx) and Themes (.thmx) are 2 completely separate & distinct types of
file, save in different locations for different purposes, etc.. In order
for
someone to help you unravel the mystery you're going to have to avoid
generalizing ("default location") & vague terminology ("adding").

Please indicate exactly what you saved, how you created & saved it,
*where*
it's saved, etc. Be as accurate & as specific as possible.
