I heard from Allan regarding his preferences problem. Hereıs what he said:
Hi Pat;
I am running OSX 10.5.2 and when I pressed apple +, I the preferences
screen
did not come up. When I pressed apple+, certain of the items on the screen
flashed bold.
I have however solved my problem by uninstalling office 2008,
re-installing
and then deleting the excel.plist file and everything was as it should be.
Thanks for your help anyway.
Allan
