Dear Bob,
you are right, I use OS X 10.5.2 with Italian systems settings (language
and formats) but I have bought the office in English (mainly because I'm
used to formulas in English while the italian version have them all
translated in Italian). With my settings "." is the thousands separator
while "," is the decimal separator (as in all Continental Europe). Excel
2008 in English is able to get the correct settings for the numbers placed
in the cells. The problems arise when I plot a chart (X Y scatter), add a
trend line and display the equation. For sake of clarity let's say that the
equation is y=0,0421x +36,27 and that I would like only two decimal places
for both the numbers:
- I double click on the equation, select number in "format trend label",
select number in category and 2 as decimal places: I obtain y=000x +036
- If I then click "use thousands separator (,)", which is obviously not
read from systems settings and wrong, I obtain y=,04213x + 36,26997.
Remember I asked to display only 2 decimal places.
- If I select 0 decimal places I obtain y=,042x + 36,270
SO in the end if I try to have just to decimal places I cannot, plus I
have a missing 0 in from of the comma
I hope that this time I have been more clear. Thanks for helping me on
this issue
Best Regards
Andrea
ps of course I I change setting (both language and number format)
everything is correct
