HELP - excel freezing up my new macbook pro

I purchased a new macbook pro in Feb and MacOffice and am finding that
EXCEL 
is freezing up my computer causing me to have to re-boot it to re-gain 
control.  It does not appear related to the EXCEL file size or complexity,

but it just randomly locks up.  I have 2 gb RAM so that is not the issue
and 
none of my other programs are causing this problem.
