Entourage 2004: Failing to Delete

Dear Newsgroup,
 
I have Entourage 2004 (v. 11.4.0) on OSX (10.5.2) set up as an IMAP
account.
My primary trouble is that I cannot delete messages‹a few have kindly
moved
to the deleted folder (either through the menu or using the toolbar
button),
but only a few.  I tried simply dragging the message into the deleted
folder‹some messages did then leave my inbox, but I certainly don¹t know
where they went as they are not in the deleted folder (not that I want
them
anyway).
 
I hope you might have some suggestions, but didn¹t see any clear strands
on
the topic.
