I deleted a number of folders on Gmail through the browser interface.
Then I started getting almost non-stop error messages about unknown
mailboxes.
After some hunting around context menus, I found this:
ctrl-click on the account name at the very top of the list of imap
folders
you should get a context menu, choose 'Receive complete folder list'
That got rid of all my 'phantom' folders and the error messages.
