This is barely enough to run the OS. You need 2GB. It would be like
getting
a new computer.

If you open the Activity Monitor in Utilities, you can view the CPU being
used. Click on System Memory tab at the bottom to see what is happening.

How much free space on have on your drive is also a factor.
