Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I just downloaded Office 2008. I wanted only Word on the dock. Everything
but Messenger disappeared from the dock when I dragged it to the trash.
Messenger will not leave no matter how many times I try to trash it. Any
suggestions?
