Hi Zack,

That's done it. I had a quick play-around with the preferences file, and 
even deleting the individual user-data had no effect. When restarting 
Messenger, I just had a load of dialogue boxes telling me those contacts
who 
I had deleted had added me to their contact lists.

I'm now on v7, although this problem has been around for me since v6.
