Well here is the situation.
IE for Mac is dead and stuck at version 5.2.3. It's outdated and the
rendering engine is really showing its age. It also is a PPC-only
application. On the other hand, it's the only applciation that can run
(some) ActiveX on a Mac.

Firefox has a decent rendering engine. THe UI is not really as
Mac-firendly as it could, but it's not bad either. FireFox is also
really really really expandable. Zillions of add-ons have been designed
for it.

Safari is pretty fast nowadays and I like its rendering engine. Faster
and better integrated than FireFox. Some sites seem to do better in
FireFox though.

I personnally have all of the above browsers on my Mac (for various
testing and compatibility issues), but my default browser is OmniWeb. I
love the interface and they added some refinements not yet found in any
other browser.

In your situation, I suspect you could be fine with either FF or Safari,
