Yes, as Corentin mentioned, in your own Do***ents folder (notice the
absence
of the demeaning "My"?), create a few Smart folders for each do***ent
type.
(Assuming OS X 10.4 Tiger, or later.)
The originals will remain in your own Do***ents folder, but the Smart
folders will only contain the type of files you specify, as aliases
(shortcuts).
You could also have a Smart folder for the last 30 days...
(I find this helps a lot!)
If you view by name, or sort by name, adding a space as the first
character,
will keep it at the top of the list (or maybe this has this been broken?).
