script problem on IE 5.2.3 for mac

I am using Mactonish osx with IE 5.2.3 for mac.
when i try to change innerText of a TD object in runtime 
as sample
window.jobCode.innerText = 'XXX' ,that TD will be very 
large.But same code can work well on IE 5.0 for mac and 
IE 6.0 for win.what can i do to change TD's innerText 
normally on IE 5.2.3 for mac?
Any ideas?  Any other sites to go to for help?
