Doesn't it just show it to you in the formula bar?
Alternately, you could enable to option for in-cell editting.

Can't say this has ever been an issue for me, unless you mean
highlighting the sources of the items.  I just double-click for
that, but there is likely to be a shortcut as well.

Or course, learning the shortcut is futile, since it will change
in the next version of Excel.  ;(
