So, I just tested your suggestion on my Intel Leopard Mac at home, and
it works on that computer just as you say.  On my PPC Tiger Mac at
work, however, it still gives the error message I mentioned before.
So something is different with regard to this command between either
10.4 and 10.5 and/or w.r.t. Intel vs. PPC.
