I'm a long-time Unix weenie, so I got the continuation fine (i.e., I
put it all on one line).  /mnt exists, as proven with the "mount_hfs"
command working.  Or are you saying that it only works under /Volumes,
and /Volumes/Foo (or whatever) has to already exist?
