Well, it's not as if having DW is a bad thing, and even if it doesn't
help you now you may well benefit from it down the road. In that
respect it's certainly worth trying.
Another approach is to try data recovery software, designed not to
repair the problematic drive, as DW is, but to get as much data as
possible off the drive onto another. In this category, there's Data
Rescue II, from Prosoft Engineering ($99) and FileSalvage, from
SubRosaSoft ($89.95). You can download both of these and run them in
demo mode for free to see what they'd be able to recover and, based on
that, decide whether to buy one.
