I have a first generation MacBook (2 GHz Intel Cure Duo, 1GB 667 MHz
DDR2 SDRAM, Approx. 30 GB free of my 80 GB HD) and for work, I have to
run several applications at the same time, including some real memory
drainers, Parallels Desktop and MS Office Access (By the way, thanks
to everyone who suggested using Parallels when I complained about
needing to use Access a few months ago).
So, when I'm working, I'm running Safari, Word, Excel, Parallels and
Access and need to alternate between programs frequently. While
running Parallels and Access itself, the system is fine but when I run
all the programs, the system is insanely slow. I checked the Activity
Monitor and it's saying that there is almost no free memory. I have
virtual memory running so that's not an issue.
My thinking is that I need to buy more memory. Unfortunately, that's
$200 and I'd prefer not to spend that if I can. Does anyone have any
suggestions or am I just stuck purchasing more RAM or just living with
the slowness?
Thanks a lot.
