In the midst of a power failure two nights ago there were several
aborted attempts to bring the power back on.
The Dual G5 in question was set to reboot automatically after a power
failure. I wasn't present, but I can imagine what happened -- automatic
restart begins, is aborted, begins again, aborts again, and this
happens quite a few times. (So a neighbor said.)
When I turn the machine on the power light comes on, the surge of fan
noise is heard (normal) and there it ends. No startup chime, and,
resting my hand on the case, I cannot feel or hear any disk activity.
It won't start in single user mode or target disk mode or any other way
that I know of.
While all data is backed up to a mirrored RAID, this machine is still
quite adequate for FCP and other demanding graphics, so I'm not anxious
to replace it at the moment.
Suggestions most welcome.
TIA,
Davoud
