Java plugin not working

by "psaffrey@[EMAIL PROTECTED] " <psaffrey@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 12, 2008 at 10:06 AM

I'm on a Macbook running 10.4. Trying the samples here:

http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.4/demos/plugin/applets.html

They work fine (load in less than second) from the Ubuntu machine that
is sitting right next to it.

My browser becomes slow as hell. Then I get the Java spinning star
logo for a while (several minutes) then I get a message at the bottom
that says "applet failed to load" (very helpful). This happens in
Firefox and Opera. I've also tried Safari, but that doesn't load any
pages at all at the moment; it currently gives me a POSIX failed to
allocate memory error.

I've downloaded the latest JRE (1.5.0.13-b05-241) - no luck. I think
it might be a proxy thing - I'm behind a non-authenticating proxy,
although of course this hasn't broken the Ubuntu machine.

Thanks in advance,

Peter
