I've been in the unix 'biz' for nearly 18 years now. A student of it 
for a good 6 before that. Here's my theory about tape.

One can often successfully write data to tape. It's the successful 
reading of data from tape that's the real trick.

I've had read's fail from just about every type of tape mechanism you 
can think of. DECtape, QIC, DAT, Exabyte, AIT, DLT, LTO bla bla bla. 
They're all crap. Sure, I've recovered my share of data from tape. It's 
the time that the ONE NUGGET of critical information you really need 
fails to come off of tape that really pisses you off..

Just a rant. Back to your normal programming.
