I've got an older12" Mac iBook that is video mirroring in its 1024 X 768
native display mode to a 21" Sun LCD external monitor whose native mode
is 1280 X 1024. The display on the external monitor fills the entire
external monitor screen [1] and shows the whole iBook screen; it's sharp
and undistorted; text and graphics have no noticable distortion [2]; and
horizontal lines have esentially uniform widths.
(Don't ask me how I got this to happen; it was several years ago, and
I'm not about to mess with a setup that works this well.)
The question is: If I buy a PowerBook 15" whose native display is 1280 X
854, will I be able to get a similarly good situation with the same
monitor? (Objective is to get a _magnified_ and not too badly distorted
display, needed for aging eyeballs.)
[1] Well, maybe there's an almost unnoticable 1/8" dark stripe down
the left side of the Sun display.
[2] If circles have a slightly elliptical shape, it's not enough that I
notice it. Text shows no noticable distortion; horizontal or vertical
hairlines don't have noticably different thicknesses at different
positions on the screen.
