viewing mpeg-2 animations

by "George N. White III" <aa056@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Dec 16, 2003 at 06:09 PM

http://seawifs.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEAWIFS/IMAGES/IMAGES.html
has MPEG-2
animations. Linux has several viewers, but two Mac users, both with
laptops that have DVD readers, one with OS9 and one with OSX, were unable
to view these. PC users with DVD readers can view them using software
that came with the DVD reader, while those without can purchase an add-on
for QuickTime.

It seems odd that Mac users with DVD players don't have the means to view
these animations without paying the MPEG-2 tax a second time (for the
QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component). Is there a way for Mac users to
view these files without purchasing the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback
Component?
