compiling gcc 4.2.0, stage 3, /usr/bin/libtool: fatal error in ld64

by dan <hitt@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 31, 2007 at 11:01 PM

Hi All,

I attempted to compile gcc 4.2.0 on an intel mac.

The OS is 10.4.9, and everything is standard (no fink, no extra
installed software of any kind).

I configured the software with no extra options (except an install
path).

After producing around 30,000 lines of output, the compilation process
errors out in stage 3, with a long command that starts off .......bld/
0/./gcc/xgcc -shared-libgcc........ and ends up .......-
compatibility_version 9 -current_version 9.0, followed by the message
     /usr/bin/libtool: fatal error in ld64

This is 5 layers deep in the make (libgcj.la).

Thanks in advance for any clues on how to deal with this.

dan
