Letting people know you were offended is fine, but you should also
accept at face value their explanation for what they were trying to
accomplish, accept the possibility that perhaps your sense of offense
was unwarranted and let it pass as an honest misunderstanding
exacerbated by the inherently limited nature of text streams. Throwing a
hissy fit because you misinterpreted someone's intentions, insisting
that you know better than they do what motivated them and immediately
resorting to name calling and overt insults yourself is, bluntly,
childish. We are civil here; you were the one who took the thread into
the realm of the personal attack.

One more time: Dave offered polite advice motivated by a simple
assumption that your knowledge might not be complete, and later
explained his rationale for that assumption. You took it as an attack on
your ability to learn, insisted that your interpretation had to be the
correct one and escalated it.

Caveat: The OP may not actually have Leopard. I took a quick look back
through the thread and I don't see confirmation that the latest version
of XCode is an option for him.

So, starting with the presumption that one is willing to learn and use
XCode: If you have Leopard, or intend to upgrade very soon, get the 3rd
edition. Otherwise get the second, which *should* still be findable at
this point.
