Problem solved
The Epson now prints without blurring, from both OSX and Classic.
The problem was that I was using the Epson Gimp-print driver. When
the Mac was forced to use the Epson USB driver the blurring stopped.
All thanks to JGH Consultants whose patience and persistence revealed
the solution.
