Epson 740 prints in double vision

by jo@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Jun 1, 2008 at 03:22 AM

My Epson 740 used to print good sharp characters. Recently it started
printing each character with a faint image about half a millimeter
before or after the full sharp image. It looks as if you are seeing
the letters in double vision.

This doesn't happen on every page, and when it does happen it affects
only 2 or 3 adjacent lines on the page. The rest of the page is good
and sharp, and the blurring doesn't appear at the same point on every
page.

There's no blurring when I use the printer with a different computer.
It only happens when I print from my G4 Titanium PowerBook, running OS
10.4.11 and 9.2.2. And it happens when printing from both OS X and
Classic apps.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could put this right?

Here's what I've tried so far.
1. Set the printer on a firm surface, with no sideways wobble.
2. Cleaned the rod the print head slides along.
3. Tried a different USB cable.
4. Tried a different USB ****t.
5. Tried a different Epson 740.
The problem persists.
