I suffered of a similar problem with a mini and leopard (10.5.1) with an
IBM 3116. the first print was OK but it was not possible to print a next
do***ent. In fact I had to put on "pause" the printer then to reactivate
it to be able to print again.
Each time I had to print, this was very ennoying.
The recent upgrade 10.5.2 solved this problem, may be the same for you ?
