Epson R300 won't print CDs

Using OS 10.4.11 with Epson Stylus Photo R300. All going well, till 
suddenly trying to print a printable CD now always produces error 
message: "Close CD guide", which makes it rather hard to print the CD.

Tried uninstalling old driver and installing latest driver from Epson 
website ~(SPR300Series 309.app), but this makes no difference. 

~Reverted to old version, no joy.

Any suggestions, please?
