If all applications are cra****ng when you try to print, there is likely
to be a problem with your printing system or default printer.
What you should probably do is a "Reset Printing System" operation,
which deletes all of your defined printers and cleans up some other
details. You will have to add your printers back again.
The details vary between Mac OS X versions.
In 10.3 and 10.4, you need to run Printer Setup Utility (if I remember
right) and look for this command under its application menu.
In 10.5, it is hidden in System Preferences > Print & Fax. You can get
to it by Ctrl-click on the list of printers.
