Question: HP 4MV, printer utility, Leopard

| With a MacBook Pro and Leopard, I'm unable to use the HP printer utility
with my 4MV. It's been handy for troubleshooting and occasionally
changing a static IP address, although I can do that from the printer
control panel.
Is there a substitute for the printer utility? I experimented a few
weeks ago with using telnet to communicate with the printer. I forgot
I'd done that until the printer today happened to show me my name on its
panel instead of "ready," or whatever else I was looking for. It's still
working fine, though.
I don't know enough about the open-source alternatives, but Google in HP
and printer utility doesn't show me any. I still have an erratic Pismo I
can boot into OS9 to use the original utility, but I don't expect that
to be around nearly as long as the 4MV.
Am I missing something obvious?
