I'm using an iBook running 10.3.9. Until recently I've had no trouble
connecting through open wireless networks. In the last couple of
weeks, three networks that previously worked fine have failed to
connect me to the Internet. In each case I get a strong network
signal but can't connect to any websites. I've tried renewing the
DHCP lease, rebooting the computer, and using the Network Setup
Assistant, but none of these helps. In two of the three cases,
there's no intermediate registration step; in the third, I never get
the registration screen. In at least one case, the network has not
had any settings changed since the last time I connected
successfully. I don't have access to any of the routers.
Any suggestions as to what might be the problem, and what I can do to
fix it? I'm worried that the next access to fail will be my own home
network.
