I just migrated from an iBook G4 running Tiger to an iMac running
Leopard. I let the Migration Assistant copy everything except network
settings, since I had a static IP configured (would it have been smart
enough to ask me for a different IP, to prevent conflict?). I only ran
into a few minor issues:
1. The iMac didn't seem to detect the iBook when it was in Target Disk
Mode. I ended up cloning the iBook to an external firewire drive with
CCC, and then migrating from there.
2. The initial account I created on the iMac had the same name as my
account on the iBook, and I was trying to run the migration from this
account as well. It complained that the account already existed, and
the option to replace it was greyed out. I solved this by creating
another administrator account and running the migration from there, then
it allowed me to replace the account during the migration.
3. I was surprised that it wasn't smart enough not to transfer all the
Classic sup****t directories, like System and Applications (OS 9). I
could understand copying Do***ents (OS 9).
4. One shareware license didn't transfer over (that I've noticed so
far). It was Compost (automatically empties the trash), so I purchased
another registration. At first I was going to write to them, but I
decided that it's inexpensive enough not to make a stink about it.
