CodeWarrior for Mac Roadmap

by Ron L <ron.liechty@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 1, 2005 at 12:15 PM

As You all probably already know we announced a road map for CodeWarrior
at MacHack.

Unfortuntately I was not able to get any firm commitments on pricing
before the convention.

Here are some highlights that I'm sure are to generate follow up
questions.

First off we will have another patch for CW 9 that fixes the Read-Only
touch bug and some other minor things. I hope this hows our continued
commitment to the Mac OS Developers and we aren't just discarding things.
This will be available in a few weeks after beta testng is finished.

We will have a CodeWarrior 10 this September or October. It will be our
last full release of CodeWarrior for Mac OS.

We chose not to just continue to update CW 9 because it was basically
too old in the tooth to continue. We wanted to do 64 bit sup****t, and
text based project formats and other things.

While CW 10 will cost it will be minimal. This is a one last effort to
provide a platform that our users can continue to use for PowerPC
projects for years to come. They can maintain their older projects and
I believe that people will want this product on the shelf in its latest
format.

We discussed providing Intel sup****t through 3rd party tools but if CW
10 is our last version this seemed pointless. We do have a plugin SDK
that will help others if they wish to attempt this as they have for
Pascal.

PowerPlant works for the Intel hosts, Apple even has information on how
to do this and other points of help.

PowerPlant and PowerPlantX and Constructor will be open sourced and we
have contacted Greg Dow and he is interested but nothing firm is there
at this time.

You may ask how long will CodeWarrior for Mac OS be sup****ted
We will have e-mail sup****t until the end of the year just as it
currently is provided. If release slips we will extend this.
We will have sup****t on newsgroups, and CodeWarrior Forums at least for
a full year after CodeWarrior 10 is released
I fully expect based on other products that have been discontinued that
ur users will maintain a community for some time to come.

Ron
