I don't know exactly what is causing the problem, but root has a crontab
that runs "calendar -a" at 1205AM. We also have a script that takes
calendar output and mails one line at a time, for those who prefer this
older approach. We had another crontab file that runs this script, also
at 1205AM. Root's crontab entry gets executed, but the second crontab
doesn't get executed. We changed the time to 0400 and it worked (at
least last night).
For future reference we would like to know if cron on 10.5.2 server can
only execute one command at a time at any given time or if only one
instance of calendar can run at a time or if there is some other gotcha
of which we need to be aware.
My understanding of Unix (from the old days) is that none of these
things should cause a problem, but I don't know what evolutionary
changes have crept in that could be factors.
