iChat Problems/Questions

by Otto Pylot <otto@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 2, 2007 at 08:48 PM

Daughter no. 1 has moved out of the area so I thought it might be cool
to video chat once in awhile. She has an iSight camera. I don't
because Apple doesn't make them anymore and I just can't see paying the
prices that I see on the web. After some research I settled on the new
Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000. The cam has the new UVS USB standard so it
works with iChat without any additional drivers with OS 10.4.9. I
plugged it in, fired up iChat and could see myself. The cam is
connected to a powered USB 2.0 hub which is then connnected to an
Iogear Hi Speed USB 2.0 PCI card. My system is a DP MDD G4 running OS
10.4.9. The OS recognizes the card as a Hi Speed USB 2.0.

I have a 6.0 Mbps DSL connection that I run thru a Linksys WRT54G
router. My connection to the router is via an ethernet cable. I don't
use any sort of ****t forwarding in the router and the firewall in the
OS is disabled. Her inet connection is thru Charter cable in Nevada and
i don't know if she does any sort of ****t forwarding and what-not.

The problem is once a connection is initiated, we can see and hear each
other for about 10 seconds and then the connection freezes. The error
messages are -20 and -22 which means nothing to me. Before she moved
out of our area (California) she said that her camera worked just fine
with her friends in Seattle. She hasn't checked in yet with her friends
so I don't know if the connection problem can be duplicated. I don't
have anyone else at this point in time to video chat with so further
testing is not possible from my end.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get this to work. I know others
have used this camera successfully with OS 10.4.9 so it must have
something to do with my setup. This is all foreign territory to me so
any advice and guidance would be greatly appeciated. Thanks.
